In-Person
Former State Historian Robert J. Torrez reflects on documents from the Mexican Archives of New Mexico (1821-1846) that show the pride New Mexicans took in their observation of 16 de Setiembre, the official celebration of Mexican Independence from Spain, and in their connection to Mexico. This presentation will review the well-documented and elaborate plans made for this and other local celebrations when New Mexico was still part of Mexico – and may give you some ideas about how to celebrate your own September 16.
