Governor Manuel Armijo wearing the Medal of Honor he received for capturing the Texas pirates in 1841Writer, researcher, and former New Mexico State Historian, Robert J. Torrez explores the wild rumors and even wilder realities of the invasion of the "Texas Pirates" in 1841 as documented in the Mexican Archives of New Mexico (1821-1846).  The Archives reveal rumors of a Texan invasion, the internal conflicts regarding suspected Texas sympathies in New Mexico, local preparations, and the Mexican government's authorization to treat the Texans as pirates.  Governor Manuel Armijo's capture of the Texans provided a great lift for the morale of the Mexican Republic.
