Calamity Jane Talks to Tourists
Event box
Over a century after her death, Martha "Calamity Jane" Cannary is still the subject of controversial stories about her life on the Western frontier. So who was Calamity Jane? Leslie Joy Coleman performs as Calamity on a visit to the grave of Wild Bill Hickok, speaking to tourists who have gathered there. Coleman's performance shows what women's liberation looked like over a century ago, while relaying stories of Calamity Jane and her adventures with Hickok.
This program is open to the public and made possible by New Mexico Humanities Council, which is supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
