The Great American Read, explores the power of books through the lens of America’s 100 best-loved novels as voted by the public.

Come join us as we highlight one of these novels with a book discussion and a film showing.

Get ready to read, vote, and share!

The Joy Luck Club (R) - Four older women, all Chinese immigrants living in San Francisco, meet regularly to play mahjong, eat, and tell stories. Each of these women has an adult Chinese-American daughter. The film reveals the hidden pasts of the older women and their daughters and how their lives are shaped by the clash of Chinese and American cultures as they strive to understand their family bonds and one another.

*The book discussion for this film will take place on September 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Albuquerque Museum. The discussion will also include a tour of The Chinese American Experience in Albuquerque.
