Come explore New Mexico history through film with a ¡COLORES! double feature. This is a free event.

Las Maravillas de Navidad - Set to the beautiful music of the Santa Fe Desert Choral, New Mexico PBS goes on a stunning photographic tour of some of New Mexico's most beautiful and ancient adobe churches -- Las Trampas, Ranchos de Taos, Chimayo, Santa Cruz de la Canada and others. Seeing these beautiful churches at Christmas time, the tradition of giving is personified by stories of great love and even miracles. Made hundreds of years ago, these ancient churches were constructed and are maintained with a deep devotion. Today they are symbols of the rich cultural heritage New Mexicans share.

A Southwest Christmas - Featuring beautiful photography and great music this film celebrates some of New Mexicos most unique Christmas traditions. The religion and folk tales surrounding the Christmas season of the Spanish, Mexican, Native American and Anglo cultures are told through four customs. We begin with the small paper bags with candles and the small bonfires known as Luminarias and Farolitos that serve as announcement and invitation to the Christmas season. We then show beautiful procession and fiesta of La Virgen de Guadalupe, followed by the reenactment of Mary and Joseph seeking shelter in Las Posadas, and end with the exotic Los Matachinas dances.
