Upset that his ex wife and husband are trying to convince his son that Santa Claus is not real, Scott Calvin reads The Night Before Christmas to him. Upon finishing they have a special visitor lands on the roof and Calvin shouts at him from the window. The man then disappears, leaving behind a sled full of gifts, eight reindeer, and a large red suit. Also left behind: a note that informs Calvin he now must take up the responsibilities of Santa Claus!

   While he has trouble believing it himself, he soon begins to grow a beard, his hair becomes whiter and whiter, and elves look up to him as the boss!
