Prepare to be engrossed in the story of a New Mexico trailblazer, as told in Victory from the Shadows, Growing Up in a New Mexico School for the Blind and Beyond, winner of eight literary awards. Author Elaine Montague presents important issues, celebrates the human spirit, and urges perseverance with integrity. Victory is the true story of Gary’s eleven years as a residential student, his life on a dryland farm, his use of 300 volunteer readers at UNM during his studies, and Gary’s long career at Sandia National Labs before the advent of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The program will include a book talk, Power Point presentation, showing of objects used by co-author Gary Montague, and discussion about finding resources to help live with low vision.
