In-Person

Local beekeeper Amy Owen of Desert Hives will provide an in-depth look at what goes on inside and outside of a honey bee colony. You will get to see live bees inside a beautiful observation hive, and will have the opportunity to taste honey from different areas of Albuquerque and surrounding areas from different seasons. Admittedly, Amy hopes to shift your perspective from honey to the importance of these amazing creatures in our ecological and food systems. She will provide information on how to support and advocate for honey bees and other pollinators.

Amy Owen of Desert Hives is a NM Certified Beekeeper, has served on the board of the New Mexico Beekeepers Association, has led the local ABQ Beeks group, maintains the hives for the NMBKA certified beekeeping program, and is a regular speaker at ABQ Beeks meetings and other events. Her business is designed to enhance the health of honey bees; honey from her hives is not regularly sold and is a sweet gift that her bees provide to others in years of an abundant nectar flow.
