A cattle baron enlists Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid to help him fight a land war. The character of John Chisum is based on a real New Mexican rancher, nicknamed "the Cattle King of the Pecos," of whom there is a statue in Roswell. In 1958, Chisum was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The film is rated G.
