In-Person

Please join Fred Hagstrom, Emeritus Rae Schupack Nathan Professor of Art, Carleton College, for a presentation about the incarceration of people of Japanese descent during World War II. The talk is based on two artist’s books: Deeply Honored and Returning Home, and covers the student relocation project, an initiative that allowed some students of college age to leave camp for their education, as well as the loyalty of Nisei who left camp to volunteer for military service. Fred recently moved to New Mexico after a career teaching at Carleton. His books and prints are held in numerous public collections, including the Library of Congress. He has spoken on the topic of the World War II incarceration at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, the Wing Luke Museum in Seattle, and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, near Seattle.
